Derek Jeter. Bernie Willliams. Andy Pettite. Alfonso Soriano- all products
of the Yankee organization.  Successful modern sports teams from F 1/Ferrari
and  Michael Schumacher to Moto GP Honda and Valentino Rossi to soccer, the
NFL, etc. all get the results they enjoy by hiring the best, and developing
a formula for victory. A team like the Yankees does have the obvious
benefits of an owner with deep pockets, and also being in a major market.
But there's also a lot more parity in baseball revenue sharing- the
difference is a lot of team owners have taken their share of that revenue
and become wealthy. The Yankees have put a lot of their resources back into
the team/ organization, as they have for many years. Like any long term
successful business, if you don't invest in the future, you're doomed to
dwell in the past.
