When I first got my ST, I noticed the same thing after about the same
distance. I think it has to do with the angle of the bars more than
anything else. Someone on this list (I don't remember who - It was 2 years
ago) made a comment about not locking your elbows and using your legs and
abs to assist more in holding your body up. I made an effort to try this
and I found that not only was I much more comfortable on the bike, but my
hands no longer fell asleep during the ride. I can easiliy do the 200 mile
fuel range without any problems at all. I never had to make this adjustment
on any of the other sportbikes I've own over the years (ZX, VFR, FZR), so I
just attribute it to the unique ergonomics of the Sprint. YMMV.
