Re: [ST] Closing Triumph Dealers

<<
Regardless, seems like it pretty much ignores the laws of supply and
demand. Hrm, if dealers aren't buying a certain bike, it's because they
can't sell them. Why is that? Maybe because nobody wants them. Either
they can't compete (Trophy/TT600) or they're just not a popular model,
like small underpowered cruisers in the USA.

Actually this is the catch-22 of it. A number of dealers wouldn't even look
at carrying certain models because they don't THINK they will sell, but once
forced to take some on, they find they do actually sell. This happens alot
with the Thunderbird, and T-Bird Sport. There are even some dealers that
don't want the sportbike line because their clientel don't usually look at
them. I can understand Triumph wanting to have a full offering at every
dealership. When was the last time you walked into a Honda dealer and they
only carried sportbikes, no cruisers, no tourers, no ATV's, etc? The easy
solution for this is trading amoung dealers, the dealer in the flatlands of
Kansas can trade his Daytona bikes to the dealer in the moutains of NC for
their cruisers. I don't know why they don't do this? It's not like Triumph
would care who was selling what, just that they were getting sold. Oh wait
I forgot, that would take work on a dealers part. Many dealers who bailed
out on Triumphs in the past few years came to the realization it was too
much work to sell Triumphs to people, they expected to just put them out on
the floor and people would buy them, just like the Jap bikes. Well it
doesn't work that way, and the real successful dealers of Triumph embrace
this, and make it work for them. But those are the same dealers that are
already European bike dealers.

Er, jumping off the soapbox now, I hear my medication being opened.
