Odd that you'd choose a flame source as an analogy, yes?  Try this drill,
when your plastic fittings fail on the road sometime:

Remove gas soaked clothing
Remove seat
Remove grab bar
Remove rear bodywork
Ascertain source of leak
Remove offending connector
Try installing a new, "cheap plastic" connector you've optimally stashed
under the seat, next to your "cheap" tool kit
Install new connector...good luck re- using the non- reusable clamp!!
Repeat above, as necessary, until you f***ing realize you should have
listened to your fellow listers and spent the $40.00
