This is the rare but predictable reaction of a purchaser with a dealer
who is incompetent.

Triumph has been quite zealous the last few years about rooting out the
dealers who don't measure up, usually because of a commitment to selling
and servicing the extensive bike lines they already had. Why send a
mechanic or two to tech school to learn about a marque that only takes
up 15% of your floor space (and none of your attention) when you can
keep him busy doing service work in the shop?

Some listers have complained about losing dealers over the years. I'm
not one of them. The shops that got "fired" deserved it and the ones
that replaced them have been a boon.

My recent trip across the US and back has convinced me that Triumph's
dealer network is growing stronger and more competent. Make sure you
save your stories of mechanical problems that couldn't be solved, they
will disappear along with the dealers who made them real.

A quick example? Sure. My bike idled too high, stuttered at mid-range
constant throttle.
The dealer (Palm Beach Triumph) replaced several idle circuit/throttle
related parts to no avail. Consultation between Charley the mechanic
and Chris in Newnan. Result, a new set of throttle-bodies, rigged and
ready to go, air from Blimey. Installed and the problem was solved.
Time: about 12 days. Cost: Zip. The bike had 24,000 miles but was only
20 months old, so under warranty.

Nothing mechanical is bullet-proof, but Triumphs come with a nice set of
Kevlar panties. You just need a dealer who knows where the zipper is.

On reflecting that he had done nothing to help anyone all that day, the
Emperor Titus ( A.D. 39-81) uttered these praiseworthy words: "Friends,
I have lost a day."
