[ST] RE: Incompetent Service

I disagree.  Incompetance isn't because the mechanic hasn't gone to a "brand" school.  It comes from other things, like, stupidity, lazyness, pressure to crank out volume, etc.

Troubleshooting, repairing, tuning (other than the comupter) is all basic.  An engine is an engine, they all work the same.  If the mechanic doesn't have a solid foundation of the basics I don't care how many brand schools he or she attends they will still be lousy.

I've seen many excellent & horrible technicians - automotive, motorcycle, electronic, A/C, plumbing, etc.  What makes the excellent ones excellent is their mind set.  They are intelligent, good at what they do, LOVE what they do, and want to perfect their skill.  The horrible ones, to them it's just a job and don't care how many times the product gets returned.  They flat out just don't care.

I've taken my RS to Atlantic Cycle Service.  A small shop that just does repair and sell accessories.  The mechanic is excellent no matter what he works on.  That's because it's his passion.  He probably eats, sleeps, drinks, and races motorcycles.  His passion for what he does sets him apart.

It's up to us as responsible parents, er um, owners to discern the difference and bring our baby, er um, motorcycle to an excellent doctor, er um, mechanic. ;)

Why send a mechanic or two to tech school to learn about a marque that only takes
up 15% of your floor space (and none of your attention) when you can keep him busy 
doing service work in the shop?
