Re: Re[2]: [ST] Mobil 1 15W-50 SuperSyn Oil

FWIW, the current-technology synthetic diesel oils (Rotella-T, Delo
400, Mobil Delvac) are 5w-40 to meet the requirements of the CH-4,
CI-4, etc. ratings for low and reduced sulfer fuel applications.
These are specified by the engine manufacturers of most major truck
engines as well as MB, VW and others

Triumph's concern here may be the spread between the cold viscosity
number and the hot. I think that's why they caution us to avoid
10w-50. I recall reading that the viscosity improvers needed to
achieve that spread may somehow compromise overall performance. Sorry
I don't have the correct nomenclature.

When using a 5w, engine tolerances may be the issue. My understanding
is that our engines don't run clearances as close as some Japanese
engines.

It is also my opinion that the 10w-40 synthetic will provide more than
adequate lubrication in most 'cold' conditions, where its still warm
enough for mortals to ride.
YMMV,
