Re: [ST] Fork Mods

Bill,
In my opinion, the Race Tech method is the best and most adjustable method
short of replacing the fork itself with some fancy high buck inverted hooya
fork. If you have ANY mechanical ability and can read, you can do it
yourself. You take off the front wheel, then crack the top cap and the
allen screw holding the damping rod on the bottom. You take off the forks
and drain them. Dump out the dampers and drill them. Make some
calculations to make some spacers so that your in the right preload range
for your adjusters. Fill the oil back in, measure to the correct level,
then put it all back together. That's the quick and dirty but I have not
left out anything of any great importance, I think. You should adjust the
static sag when done, but you should do that with whatever mod you do. I
recommend NOT drilling with a hand drill. Use a drill press with a new
sharp bit. Clean any burrs off the holes. The holes are just to flow MORE
oil to totally bypass the original damper holes so that all flow control is
done by the RT emulators.

So if they are so good, why didn't I get them? IMO, my shock is too weak
and the forks are almost OK for me. Total price for Hyperpro fork and shock
springs is less than just the forks from RT. Besides its a question of
"better than what?" cause my last name ain't Rossi.

Why did I have to send in the shock? I received an RS spring rather than
an ST. It is 3/4" shorter and I'm not putting in a spacer on my shock.
Also, I searched the planet trying to find out how to remove the Showa
spring on the stock shock and Hyperpro pointed me in the right direction of
how to do it. I know how to do it now, but because of the spring problem I
had to find out information for HyperproUSA in Chicago and Hyperpro which is
in Holland to find out exactly what the problem was. I shipped the shock to
Chicago so they could make absolutely sure I was getting the right spring
which they would install at no cost. The problem was that Holland had the
RS and ST mixed up. Would you believe I got tech support for both USA and
Holland all day on Sunday working to get this right!!!! Right now they are
out of the correct spring in the US and they are Fedex'ing it from Holland.
They are in the process of getting stocks up to speed for the new riding
season.
