This is a FWIW type of thing.  I just ordered a cut to fit set from
www.thetankslapper.com for just under 20 bucks delivered.  This will be my
third set on as many bikes.  Unlike the adhesive based products you just wet
the tank and squeegee it on.  You DO NOT have to get it right the first time
like the 3M stuff (although the 3M is supposed to hold up better because it
is thicker and the adhesive makes it work on curves better).  Mine have
never come off, discolored or done anything but protect my tank.  You can
take them off and clean them which I have never found to be necessary
because you just clean and wax right over them.
