Chiming in late...I've got 21k miles on the original chain. I've adjusted it two or three times. I stick the blue PJ lube on it less often than I should, and I've never cleaned it (but I think the guys at the shop have cleaned it for the 6k mile service interval). And the chain is still fine

I used to THINK I wanted a shaft drive for no maintenance, but this chain has been hardly any maintenance, anyway. So there you go.
