Well, then don't use a spray lube! I just wipe down my chain with TriFlow every other gas stop (or at the end of the day for big mileage days) to get the grime off, and I've had good chain life (about 20K miles each chain, and I probably replace the things early). Better yet, I don't get any fling off the chain.

But the fling off from the lube is a real PIA. Yes, I've tried several
different brands and I do lube my chain after riding, not right before.
Eliminate the gunk on the real wheel, centerstand, and underneath the
rear pannier and the chain will become a moot point. Until then, I hope
my next ST has a shaft.
