Mark,

I feel saddened that you feel that you have been forced to withdraw from
the site by other's comments. People are people. Bikes are bikes. I've
ridden a few marques over the mere 7 years that I have been riding, and
have met and formed friendships with people who ride bikes as diverse as
Yamaha R6s, Kawasaki ZZRs, Moto Guzzis, BMWs, FJRs, VFRs, Aprilia Milles
and Falcos and even, shock on shock, the occasional Triumph.

Not one of those bikes doesn't have issues of some point in time. However,
the level of support you get when you do get a problem is what makes the
difference. I had a radiator leak develop, and my supplying dealer got me
back on the road with a new radiator within a couple of days. I was happy -
no delighted - with that, but it was really no more than you would expect
from a car dealer, so why the shock of the same level of service from a
bike dealer? Experience, that's why. That dealer is no longer a Triumph
franchisee (for whatever reason ...) but the local dealer has been more
than helpful on a couple of occasions. I'll just have to wait and see how
good the service is there in the next month.

It sounds like you got a sh*t deal with the support - and that's a real
shame. A good friend of mine has had nothing but grief from the BMW R1100GS
he got after having Triumph Trophys for a number of years. He's now looking
for a change too because of his disappointment. All this from a bike that
the UK bike press hardly have a bad thing to say about.

As for oil and tyre threads - I reckon it's the same on all single marque
mailing lists all over ... it's the nature of the beasts. ;-)

I still think more bad things than good (screams for help!) are the norm on
these lists - you don't hear much from folks when they are simply out there
making good use of their bikes - apart from the irrepressible Mr Duncan and
a few notable others. Gawd bless 'em all! I'm as guilty as the next person
of that. I haven't written one word about a three day trip to Northern
Ireland, the NW200 motorcycle races and the touring about I did there. It
was great by the way.

Anyway, sorry about the ramble, but it does sadden me that comments on this
list may have been the final straw for you. Ride what makes you smile is
what I say. If that's not a Sprint ST, good hunting and many happy miles on
whatever replaces it.

Have fun,

Stephen (Spud) McS.
