Erik,
I even got published commenting on this article and recieved a personal
email from Kent who was one of the authors. They weren't too happy with me.
To the a non-engineer or scientist, the pair of articles were informative on
the basics but only gave the appearance of a comparison test. The only way
I could explain what I am getting at is using fruit as an analogy. They
would take ten pieces of different fruit then take a banana and pear to run
test one on. Then they would take an apple and an orange to run test two.
Two other fruits on test three. You get the picture. In the end you could
not tell whether the pear and the orange were similar or different because
they never ran them in the same tests. I have yet to see one test of motor
oils in ANY motorcyle magazine that was truly scientific enough to draw any
comparative analysis. There is this book called the Oil Bible which is very
informative, but has its own bias. It has the most data of any book I have
come across to compare oils and it updates the info online.

That being said, I wouldn't even waste my time. Go get some Amsoil, Red
Cap, even Syntech which I believe is snake oil, and I don't think it will
make any difference if you get the right API and viscosity rating. Has
ANYONE got ANY evidence of a part failure on any motorcycle directly due to
the correct oil itself failing under normal operating conditions????
