This issues was talked about a fair bit on the FJR list. The reason why
Kneebone and others got there 'ire' was because they felt he drew far
too much bad press for LD riders.

As far as speed, they have never said it was an Iron Butt rule to always
follow the speed limit. But, they would prefer to see people ride a bit
more "responsible" when in public view.

Yeah, it is stupid, but with all of the safety minded Nader types
running around, they would rather error on the side of caution.

Same thing with the squids pulling wheelies, wear no gear on a crowded
hwy. It does nothing for us trying to get motorcycling accepted into the
main stream. Oh well.

As far as Red Bull and the like. I actually find I am at my best if I
ride for about 16 or so hours, and sleep for 5-6. Very little caffeine,
raw sugar or big meals. Up before dawn and start looking for a place to
sleep when the sun goes down. Generally I can average at least 60mph,
including stopping to smell the roses, gas and meals. (16 * 60 = 960
miles) One of the only days I could not achieve that was when I did the
BRP in a single day. I think that day was closer to the about 600 miles,
of course, I only spend about 50 of that on roads that roads that had a
speed limit greater than 45 :-) (it was a short detour for construction
on the BRP).

I figure if I actually stick to the super slap, and ride a bike like a
Tiger or my FJR, I should be able to ride 10/10ths with out a lot of
trauma. I will never try to do the Ultimate CC in under 100 hours, but I
will do it before I turn 50! (I hope)

But of course that is just me. And I will admit I did try to see how
well the Sprint ST would power wheelie at 10,000 feet, but when I am out
on the road, the from wheel rarely leaves the ground. Again YMMV!

Eck, sorry for the rant.

cheers,
Tom
