It's a conspirancy I tell you!  Just like selling computers to the masses.
Everyone talks about the CPU clock speed, i.e. 3.0 GHz but there's more to
it than that.

Motorcycle manufacturer's talk all this HP but it's not real.  They really
should be publishing rear wheel HP & torque, instead of crank bhp and
torque.  That way we consumers can get a true representation of the complete
system & it's losses.  Comparing crank bhp really isn't comparing apples to
apples.

The crankshaft is the final output from the engine, but there is a
transmission between the engine output shaft and the counter shaft which
robs some of that crankshaft horsepower.  Most manufacturers measure
horsepower at the crankshaft.
