[ST] kill switch

Does anyone have a logical reason to *routinely* shut *any* motorcycle off
with the kill switch?
In the bad old days some bikes didn't even have keys or ignition switches
and were shut off using a kill switch. Then some crazy legislature
mandated all bikes be equipped with kill switches because of sticking
throttles due to crap cables made in those days. Today the kill switch is
just a leftover from that legislation that is really useless given todays
good throttles and other modern technologies.
Shtting any bike off with the kill switch today just seems silly as it is
an additional step in the s/d procedure. Ya gotta turn the bike key off
anyway, why complicate things with the kill switch. Somebody likely
smarter than me can help me understand why anyone would do this.
