Could be; some seem to last longer than others. Mine let go suddenly
in the mid-20K mile range, and the change was very noticeable.
Actually, it happened on my way out to the second Colorado rallye; all
of a sudden the bike was wallowing through corners that wouldn't have
bothered it a week earlier.

Others seem to have their shocks die slowly, so it can be hard for the
owner to tell. A good test is to crank the compression all the way to
either end and see if you can feel a big difference on a route you
know. If you can feel a definite difference, then the shock is doing
its job (at least, more-or-less). If its only a so-so difference, it
may be time to start shopping.

How's that for a definitive answer? :-)
