Re: [ST] GPS?

I have an Emap as well and really appreciated having
it with me when I rode back from Texas to Maryland
last summer. I was downloading maps from my laptop
onto the 32 mb memory card every evening, planning for
the next day and could then stick to incredible back
roads throughout the trip. I had papermaps but seldom
used them. I like the Emap because... the screen is
pretty bad and the eye is not attracted by all these
fancy colors on newer GPS. You just look at it when
approaching a turn and most of the time the big arrow
on the top left corner is enough to steer you in the
right direction.
It is fixed to the handlebars with a Cycoactive RAM
mount slightly to the left of my eyesight so I always
see oncoming cars without obstructing the gauges.
I rode 20 years without a GPS and couldn't do without
it now. I wouldn't buy a new one cos' riding with a
700 dollars worth (or more) electronic device exposed
on the bike seems a little risky to me.... unless it
has all the back roads in the U.S. on one memory card
with an user friendly programming software. But I
don't think we there yet.
