It appears that you are all losing the point.  The speedo accuracy will
not be affected by the pick-up method.  If your speedo is off, it's off.
The error is in the gauge's translation, not the drive unit, or the odo
would not be accurate.

Bruce is correct.  A speed/cruise control should maintain the speed, not
the throttle setting such as we have now with the solid condoms and
Throttlemeisters. With such a device you simply set it at the speed you
wish to maintain, independent of the readout on a gauge.  I usually try
to maintain a speed that prevents me from catching cages too quickly
while avoiding being caught by the same.

True enough Matt, but if you were going to all the engineering,
fabrication 
and installation hassles, and you had the option of an accurate speed
input 
or an inaccurate one, wouldn't you choose the former??
