I have a GPS V and mount it off the front tank bolt.  There is a RAM ball
with a kind of tear drop shape plate that gets held down by the tank bolt.
When that is secure, I use the normal extension (not short or long) and a
cradle to hold the GPS.  I put an aluminum plate together so that I have my
Escort 8500 and the GPS right between the bars and it doesn't obsure my view
of the instruments.  Also, I think it's better in a fixed postion rather
than on the bars which rotate.
