I, too, bought a new left-over 2002 RS.  The 600 mile service included the oil change, check of throttle body sync., check for ECU error messages and general check of fluids,  fasteners and general function of everything.  Probably some other items, too, that I forgot. Do be certain to check for loose fasteners.  I had loose bolts on footpeg brackets, fuel tank mounting and other places well before 600 miles.
 
I haven't tried a gel seat.  The stock one was fine for consecutive 400-mile days last month.
