Are you sure you didn't get your mitts all over them?  Halogens are really susceptible to burning out due to hot spots created by oil from your hands.  I wear rubber gloves when I install bulbs, to make sure.  My Phillips VisionPlus' have been in the ST, AND my three other bikes for 2-4 years and I've never had one burn out.  And that includes my BMW F650 which I ride off road, a LOT.
