What if you are in the Left Turn lane to start? A friend looked up on
the internet how the mechanism works. There is a coil in the pavement,
the steel mass of a vehicle changes the inductance causing the switch to
trip. If you look on the pavement you can see a closed shape, you need
to be in the center of it. Sometime I find that doesn't help anyway. I
have not been ticketed yet...but every time I run the light (without
waiting for a few cycles), I tell myself that I will argue with the cop
and that should stop him/her from writing me up (don't know if it would
help). Short of that, I would video tape the intersection that has been
previously explained.

When I find I'm stuck at one of those lights I turn RIGHT which in most
states it's legal to make a right on a red. I then make a u turn..
