[ST] Speedo woes remedy

I wrote awhile back asking if anyone had their speedometer go insane.
Mine did. I finally got around to pulling it out to see if I could take
it apart. You can't. So I removed a few screws and noticed what appeared
to be some slight oxidation. The screws actually conduct the signals
from the wiring harness to the speedo internals. When I found I couldn't
take it apart, I put it back. The next day I found the speedo sells for
something like $360. Yikes. I also noticed that mine had suddenly become
sane again,
at least momentarily. Aha! So I got some copper grease (used to
lubricate rotating antenna bits) that had kinda dried out, but seems to
have much more copper content that Permatex Copper Anti Seize compound.
Pulled out the speedo again, and using latex gloves (I had been
forewarned you cannot get the copper off your fingers), removed each
screw and smeared copper over it,
and retightened. Since the grease isn't made for screw applications, I
cleaned up as best I could and then coated the tops of the screws with
some liquid electrical tape. This to hopefully cut down on corrosion and
also prevent the screws from loosening. So far, it seems to be working
just fine.
Just letting you know how you can save a pile of money if your speedo
starts going crazy.
