Most modern O-ring chains and especially X-rings chains do not need lub.
The lub that counts is sealed inside behind the O-ring.
IMNSHO, except for maybe some extra wear on the sprockets all chain lub
does is attract dirt with grinds up the o-rings and grinds between the
chain and the sprockets which then causes wear anyway.
IMNSHO, the best thing you can do for a chain is keep it clean and
properly tensioned. Start out with a really good X-ring and enjoy your
ride. If the bike is going to sit for a long period of time you will
want some lub on it to protect from rust, but that is about it.
I see no real benefit of a shaft drive bike.
