Excerpt from http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net/SecondPage.html

For instance, it would take 4 Manhattan size city blocks of solar
equipment to produce the amount of energy distributed by a single gas
station in one day.

With 17,0000 gas stations just in the United States, you don't need to
be a mathematician to realize that solar power is incapable of meeting
our urgent need for a new energy source that - like oil - is dense,
affordable, and transportable.

On a similar note, It would take close to 220,000 square kilometers of
solar panels to power the global economy via solar power.

For example, imagine the impact on electricity production if every house
had solar panels that fed back into the grid.

Any thoughts?

I reside in the Western WA, Fuel prices are about 1.50/gal avg but seen it up to 1.70/gal

In this area, there are MANY trucks and SUVs, I mean every soccer mom and pencil pushing city resident has to have an F350 club wagon Power Stroke to get 6 bags of groceries and 3 kids around town, maybe occasionally tow a small boat or something. Nothing I cant do w/my Turbo Saab beater car @ 24+ mpg - it can also swallow an impressive pile of firewood for a 2 door hatch. I would assume most of us here have chosen vehicles based on our needs rather than fashon/status statements. It seems us motorcyclists are a different breed regarding vehicles. Exceptions I know!!! but generally speaking.

I have an 86 full size Bronco 5.0 OD that is mighty thirsty (8 town-18 hwy w/OD) but it sits until I need to cover rough terrain (shooting/camping etc). I also have a modified 78 LTD that has never gotten better than 13 anywhere but it sits until I have 6 or more passengers.

I hear lots of complaining, usually from ppl that just HAD to have that lumbering turd of an SUV. Dont get me wrong, I feel a bite every time I fill up but this is the cost of doing business and owning vehicles/power equipment. The last place I thought I would hear this much discussion about fuel costs is on a digest for vehicles that get 45mpg or better!! I know my ST never gets less than 60mpg on the other side of the mtns.

This is where its going w/fuel prices, The ride is more enjoyable if were not pissed about the fuel we just put into it. Peace!!!!

Tony

Andy, could you please pass this along?? Thanks, ys

Just wanted to notify everyone that due to my recent twin boys in my
family I've decided to part of my AWESOME 2002 Roulette Green Triumph
Tiger 955i. The bike is located in Orlando, FL and the details are as
follows.

The bike runs great, It looks and rides as new. The paint is flawless
with a fresh coat of wax just about every few weeks and it shows!!
Cockpit, plastics, frame and everything else is also flawless.

Here are some of the EXTRAS this awesome bike includes:

OEM Heated grips, OEM Triumph High Performance Exhaust with latest
mapping,OEM ORIGINAL almost brand new Triumph exhaust that came with the
bike, power port, Engine/Gas Tank Guard, Radiator Guard, Oil cooler
guard, Cruise Control/Throttle Meister, Almost new Metzler tires, 2
windshields (OEM regular and a larger one), and everything else I might
of forgotten to mention!!!

Once again, the bike is in great condition. I would love to keep this bike but new-kids-on-the-block forces sale. The Kelley Blue Book values the bike at $6900 WITHOUT any of the extras, but will take $6500 for it as long as is a good home ;-)

I can be contacted at ysuarez01@xxxxxxxxxxx or my cell number (407)
925-9822.

I thank you in advance for your interest.

That's OK, I just hit the Delete key.

Check with your Triumph dealer on boots, the Explorer and Tour models
are both excellent. The hightop sneaker model is comfortable, but not
practical in any kind of weather.

Palm Beach Triumph recently purchased a lot of Triumph clothes and is
selling them at discount. Try sales@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx . They are a
Triumph only dealer now, BTW.

Gas prices are just APPROACHING the real cost we were paying in the

mid-70's.

Not to mention, when you add in the cost of other neccessities, these
may just be the good ole days. When my father was touring in Europe in
1960 we called him on his birthday for a surprise. We waited about 45
minutes for a line and when we did get through, the ~3 minute call was
$27(in 1960 bucks, what would THAT be today). I deal with Italy on a
regular basis and my calls from USA are simply cell minutes + 10¢/min
overseas premium and my calls from Italy to USA when I'm there are
75¢/minute. If $5.00/gal gasoline curtails the sale of SUV pleasure
boats, then it can't be all bad. I live <4 miles from work for a
reason. I fill up one or the other of my bike every two weeks for ~
$10. Most of my gasoline expense is pleasure use, so I'm not going to
complain.

It would be great to swap info with you, off list, on maintenence issues etc as our mileages grow.

Why offlist ? I'm interested to get your experience too.

Mine has 42000km, but doing 20000+ a year, I'm not that far and I've decided to keep it as a commuting bike.

its not that its not still available, its more the problem of where
its coming from. Its going to be more expensive to get to, and the
areas that are easy will be be less safer in terms of political will.

ie: more and more wells are in deep sea and the technology is slowly
getting there to allow companies - like the one i work at - to
actually engineer the methods of extraction. Other places of large
reserves are in hostile areas ie Iraq

Face it, the days of cheap fuel are coming to the end. Whether people
like it or not, basic economics are going to change the nature of how
people move around. Whether that happens in 5, 10, 15, 20 or any other
number is the question.

Do you have the "old" ST, i.e. pre-2002? If so, it's likely that the leak
is coming from your clutch-cover gasket.

The mailing list should be back up. Post away and lets see what happens.

If you were previously setup to receive digests you should be setup as
digest on the new list.

Some people had a second email addresses setup that they could post
from. I did not import this data. If you have this need then go to the
list page on TriumphNet.com and subscribe the second password. Then
edit your options and disable mail delivery.

I would like to thank Gavin, Simon and Steve for all their help. The
website is a work in progress but at least it is functional.

I would also like to thank Eric for his patience.

The next step will be to make the archive searchable.
