But early May that pass (as well as most other nice passes) will
still be closed. The St Bernard col is open a month later, from
June to November:

I had to take the Brennerpass to Italy in beginning of May,
the rest was still snowed in then. Italy was very rainy then,
Rome was okay for the first few days. The way back was mainly
rainy and cold, especially thru the Alps and southern Germany.
Early May is not the best time to go there :-(.
