RE: "Yes it does appear to be the Clutch cover but its not a seperate
cover
as was on my daytona, its all one big cover!
Im waiting for the gasket to arrive and will then change it, anyone
with advice feel free to post. Im not good with doing jobs myself."
Pat,
I thought that might be the source since I had the same leak myself. I
have a 2001 ST with the same large cover. When I removed the cover, the
old gasket was very adherent in parts. I removed what parts I could by
gently lifting up with a blade carefully slid underneath. The cover metal
is very soft (magnesium alloy, I believe)and can be gouged easily, so take
care. The bits that were too stuck I then removed with very fine
sandpaper. I then cleaned the remainder of both lips (of the housing and
cover) with very fine paper such that both were smooth and shiny. I then
placed a new gasket and replaced the cover, torquing each screw to the
specified amount (only 9Nm, if I remember correctly) from the centre
outwardly. By the way, if you leave your bike on the side-stand, all the
oil will drain away from your work area. Once you're done, don't forget
to top up with fresh oil.
An easy, but painstaking job. Good luck,
Paul.
