RE: [ST] Looking for a Sprint

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or what John, but it's a fun topic so
here goes.

Ok, ok, so it's not a land speed record, but I wouldn't want to attempt
it again. I passed 4 Super Troopers who had people pulled over in GA.

Why so "slow"? I ALWAYS slow down when passing traffic, because no one
wants to be passed by someone doing over a 100. Everyone has cell
phones now and they won't hesitate to call 911 to report a bike that
just scared the bejeebers out of them. I try not to pass anyone doing
more than about 10-20 mph faster than them, so it's a lot of high
speed/slow down riding. When passing, you slow down, sit up, put the
left hand on the hip, and act nonchalantly like you're just tooling down
the IState like everyone else. At 20 mph faster than them you don't
look like you're going fast. As soon as you duck under the windshield
though you look like you're speeding.

I DIDN'T keep the speedo pegged unless the road was totally clear.
Plus, I slowed down while going through cities, of course! Avg speed is
about right. When I got home and figured the avg speed I knew it wasn't
the right thing to do and felt a little guilty. But, having 5 doctors
tell you that you're terminal makes you feel like doing some crazy stuff
every now and again.

Even given my attempt at being smart about riding fast, I have been
pulled over once because a North-bound local LEO supposedly saw me and a
car "racing" South on the big slab. When I approached an exit (while
riding slowly in the midst of a big group of vehicles), another local
LEO was waiting, sitting right in the middle between the North and South
bound lanes pointing his vehicle at us South-bounders.

As soon as he saw me he pulled out and got right in behind me as I
exited for a gallon of gas. There were two of them, both surprised that
I was an "old guy" who should know better, then they played the good cop
bad cop thing on me. One wanted to put me under the jail even though he
hadn't seen a thing. He was quite angry and it allowed me a great
opportunity to see how bad things can go if you seriously tick off a LEO
(which I did).

After I determined they weren't going to haul me in just to teach me a
lesson I told them I got the message loud and clear and was very
apologetic about appearing to be riding fast, etc. They got my
attention.

So. I DON'T do long-haul high-speed runs anymore. :) Like most
everyone else, I just blip it up every now and again. My wife says
she's not impressed as one of these days I'm going to get a blippin'
ticket AND go to jail. My wife, the comedian.

You all have a wonderful day,
I sure will!
James
