Re: [ST] real world bikes

Sounds like excellent research material for my monologue that tries to talk
a friend out of a new Hayabusa as an 'around-town' bike, in Wash DC area
traffic. His previous one was stolen. I failed to talk him outof that one,
even when he was sitting on a 2002 Daytona and liked it. Now he want's
another 'busa, so I'm gearing up again.

Hi all,

I did a run on Sunday with some mates, and it was fun to watch the
differences between the riders & bikes.

There were two Triumph RS's, a BMW K1200S, a BMW R1100S, a BMW F650, a GSXR
750 (K5 limited edition), a Honda CBR1000RR (K5) and a 1980's Yamaha 1.1
Special.

We did the Kloof Nek, Chapman's Peak, Scarborough, Kommetjie Red Hill route,
at a reasonable pace. Fast enough to be fun but not loony.

The scenery is great, the route is one big twisty, but the surface is very
bumpy.

My bike was in its element, I had great fun, and most of us struggled to
keep up with Mark on his R1100S -very good for such a big bike over the
bumpy stuff -but he knows how to use it.

The most impressive was Carl on his 1.1, I cant understand how he gets that
ancient thing to be so quick through the twisty's, I was pushing my limits
to hold on to him through Red Hill.

The Sport bikes had a terrible time, too much power for the tight route,
they struggled to keep up with us over the bumps - overall I still think I
have the right bike for most of my riding. Jaco on his CBR was complaining
how hard it is to ooze the power in gently over the bumps without getting it
all pear-shaped.

The ride ended with an ice cold frosty at the Brass Bell overlooking Kalk
Bay harbor - life is tough!

cheers
