RE: [ST] In Search of the Illusive MC Content

Rod,

No. I don't believe that talking track all the time and having a setup to handle the forces of track riding will cause a person to develop and attitude that will increase the probability of a crash. That insane attitude will already exist in a persons character.

By talking track all the time and analyzing the physics and mechanics of the bike in a situation will make you a better rider. This is because you are programming a reaction into your subconscious so you can just do without thinking.

I can speak from experience, and other will probably agree, that stuff happens fast. There's no time to think, just do. So you better be doing the right thing. 65MPH is roughly 95 feet/second, don't waste those precious seconds thinking ;-)

The only way to not do this is to talk about situations, how you'd pick an escape route, and envision it in your mind. Consciously telling yourself what to do and what not to do will prepare you for the instant when things happen so you just react without thinking about it.

Stuff will still happen, and fast. And sometimes you won't avoid it. An accomplished rider told me twenty years ago: Don't WORRY about crashing or getting killed. If you dwell on it, it will become fear and you will have made a self fulfilling prophesy. Because it will eventually happen if you keep thinking it will. So always keep thinking positive.

Rich

<<SNIP>>
The question is if you talk track all the time, set your bike up
like it was a track machine, do you develop an attitude that will increase
the probablity of a crash.
