Re: [ST] Plastic weld

Yes. But it has been a while. My kids will tell you that it was around
the time that plastic was discovered in the great plastic mines of what
is now called Connecticut (this was shortly after the dinosaurs died
out.) Many moons ago I had to weld some plexiglas(tm) aka acrylic
sheeting. The key to success is to practice, practice, practice before
you attack the big project. Like welding metal you have to watch your
temperature and feed rate.

The welder I had used was the type that blows a stream of hot air. It
was more like brazing or TIG. The Model 5 is airless so I wouldn't know
how that goes. Again, practice makes perfect. It comes with an
instructional video which will tell you a lot more than I know.

You're too late. That plastic was discovered when plastic miners hit the
Anterior Basalt Strata about 6 miles east of what is now called
Hartford. A large deposit was found just below the surface on the
southern side of a large mountain. After centuries of plastic strip
mining the area was reduced to plains and rolling hills. That particular
strain of plastic is named after where it was found: Anterior Basalt
Strata or ABS plastic. If you want to discover a new plastic you will
have to dig deep in remote areas. All of the plastic mines dried up
years ago. In fact, most of the plastic that you find today is synthetic.

Excellent. Be sure to also pass along the embarrassing story about what
caused the need to weld plastic. ;-)

Aye. And back at you. May the number of times that you put down your
kickstand equal the number of times that you put it up.
