John,
Everything on a Triumph (except fuel system components) is ABS or a
blended plastic with ABS being the main element. ABS is know for its
impact resistance as well as other good traits at a reasonable cost.
For sharp breaks I would recommend sanding about 1/3 through the part
from the backside. Then, using fiberglass with an epoxy form strips
across the break on the backside. Plastic welding has its place but it
doesn't puts the material in shear which is what you want to do on a
repair.
