How about wearing the bag? Or using a backpack, just
let it stick out from the top (perhaps a plastic bag
to keep it dry? Just remember to duck when riding below
low bridges ;-).

Good ideas, everyone. I considered the duct tape approach; no doubt, it
would be bomb-proof, but I think I would prefer something a little more
elegant and less messy... :)

I don't seem to have any of the other materials listed, however in looking
around the house, I found an old stuff-sack that I used to put my tent in.
It's long enough, relatively moisture resistant, high-friction, and has nice
straps that I should be able to loop the zip ties through to keep it from
sliding around.

I'll let you know whether or not it works.

Thanks for the input!

PS. Emile - welcome to the list! I think you'll enjoy the Sprint.

PPS. Happy New Year, everyone. I hope you are all being blessed with the
same unseasonably warm weather we're having here in North Georgia (it hit
70f today!).

All,

I have some posters that I want to transport, so I got a cylindrical mailing
tube to hold/protect them. However, it's too large to fit in the panniers,
and it won't fit in my jacket.

I'd like to strap it down on top of one of the panniers (using the carrying
handle), and also strap it to the luggage rack. However, all of the
strapping methods I've tried (zip ties, cinch straps) allow the tube to
slide right the heck out.

Has anyone else done this successfully? I guess I could always wrap the
tube up in an old T-shirt and see if that stops from sliding...

Thanks,
  - Dave
