[ST] for Rick - Road conditions & routes

The Santa Monica mountains are laced with great roads, most of
which (the canyons over Mulholland Dr) have been closed for the last
few days. The Pacific Coast Hwy is also closed in some places. The
same is true of the great (read tight/rough) roads in the Santa
Barbara hills. The scenic route from the 5 through Frazier Park/
Ojai to Santa Barbara will most likely be impassable.

Hwy 154 north from Santa Barbara over San Marcos Pass - which
had nearly 30 inches of rain in the last week or two - to Lake
Cachuma and the wine country roads north of Santa Ynez (Foxen Canyon,
Alisos Canyon, etc) should be OK; as should the beautiful Santa Rosa
Rd from Buellton to Lompac (the flower seed capital of the west,
could be quite pretty). Drum Canyon south from Los Alamos will almost
certainly be closed along with Tepusquet Canyon.

Not to be missed if at all possible is lunch (open 'till 3pm
weekdays) or dinner at the Cold Spring Tavern, just off Hwy 154 on
the north side of the San Marcos summit. It's an authentic old
stagecoach stop with excellent food. www.coldspringtavern.com
