A few years back I had the pleasure of an American's
company beside me at an Oxford University banquet.
(Boy was THAT a fancy do - silk tablecloths, silver,
waiters who looked like funeral directors, 7 courses
each with it's own type of booze etc). 

He happened to mention that he liked 'smokey'
flavours, so after our final course I asked a flunky
to bring him some of my favourite Laphroag instead of
the usual brandy. And he raved about it! It's a single
Scotch malt, famous for being so peaty that it tastes
like a smoky bonfire. It's smooth and complicated and
gorgeous. If you too like smokey, try and find it, you
won't be disappointed.
