I got back from my baseball park tour (15 stadiums in 20 days, 10,057
miles) the other day. While toodling around the country in the minivan I
found some amazing roads that I would like to get back to on two wheels
some day.
Colorado:
US 50 from Canyon City to Montrose.
US 550 from Montrose to Durango.
California:
CA 299 from Redding to Arcata (I saw two state troopers between Shasta
and Douglas City but it was clear after that).
US 199 from Crescent City to Grants Pass, Oregon.
Wyoming:
US 14Alt. from Cody to Dayton (a stretch of US 212 west of Yellowstone
is all torn up for repaving)
There are probably better roads out there that I didn't see but that
will be the next big trip.
Most of the bikes that I saw out there were HD's and Gold Wings. However
when we were passing through Ohio last week almost every bike heading
west was a BMW that was probably heading the BMW rally.
As for the baseball part of the trip, the best park to see a game in:
Wrigley in Chicago. The worst: Busch Stadium in St. Loius. The two best
parks for checking out women: Safeco in Seattle and Wrigley. A special
thanks to Steve Knudsen for the tickets in Seattle and a tip of the
helmet to Howard Serlick for knowing where the good diners are around
Philadelphia.
Eventually I'll post some pix.
