Up to 2002, EU bikes had both headlights working on low beam. On 2002
and later bikes, only one headlight (on the ST) operates on low beam.
This was because the Eurocrats decided that bikes with two headlights
were too confusing for car drivers, who were confusing such bikes with
cars which were further away than the bike actually was, and hence
pulling out in front of those bikes at junctions. Poor confused wee
souls.

The issue is further confused because if you have two bulbs covered by
one lens, both are allowed to be on when using low beam - even though
this still looks like two lights as there are two reflectors. Another
triumph (small T) of politics over common sense.

Simple innit?
