Re: [ST] July Rider

Hey Jim,

Steve was wrong and he knows it. Apparently you don't agree?

I had stated that the Imperial MPG figure was always higher than the US
MPG equivalent and that's exactly what your equations show. So the
number being quoted in the mag review could not have been the Imperial
specification by accident.

For the record, my '03 RS (box-stock except for one less tooth on
countershaft sprocket) typically gets in the low 40's for IMPERIAL MPG.
This contrasts sharply with my former (absolutely box-stock) '99 ST
which averaged in the low 50's (overall). I attribute the difference to
the 10 extra ponies of second-generation RS engine, coupled with my
tendency to flog the RS more than I ever did with the ST. The RS is
lighter, narrower, has sharper steering geometry, and after 5 years of
riding Sprints I feel pretty comfortable, almost to a fault. I have not
been on any sustained LD trips with the RS yet, but during such a trip
with my ST (round trip Vancouver, BC to Edmonton) I kept detailed
records and AVERAGED exactly 60 Imperial MPG. The best I achieved was
66 MPG and the worst was 56 MPG. At the time I thought that was
fantastic.

Neil
