I'll second Steve's comments.  I plugged a Dunlop D207RR with 1500 miles on it did nothing but ride the piss out of it for another 5500 miles.  It held air better than my bikes with tubed tires.  So I didn't worry.
It all depends on the wound.  Obviously no one would want to go far on a patched "gash", but a nail probably didn't even tear a cord.
