RE: [ST] SS Brake Lines?



My experience has been that pushing the pistons back into the caliper involves bleeding (brake fluid, not blood), which I'll likely be doing anyway to make the funny color go away.  

Dot 4 like the cover says, right?

If you look under the outer rubber sheath, you'll see that the factory
brake lines are stainless braid.  The sponginess comes from dirt
accumulation on the pistons.  

Try this:  remove a caliper and using the brake lever, slowly pump out
the pistons until the pads meet.  Then, using brake cleaner, clean the
crud off the pistons and gently push the pistons back into the
caliper.  Reinstall that caliper and repeat for the other side.
You'll notice a much firmer brake lever.
