RE: [ST] SS Brake Lines?



Who ever told you that is misleading, as coming into turn 1 at Louden, my gsxr nearly always leaves a few inches of air under the rear while traveling at about 130mph.. It depends on the brakes, as well as traction of the tires. Honestly, just look at stunt shows, and watch the guys pulling 600-700 foot stoppies.. They start the run at around 100 mph, then bring the rear right up.. And that's on stock bikes, just adding steering dampers and sliders..

I was taught in race school that over approximate 70MPH you can grab all the front brake possible and not stoppie. The rationale is that the force (momentum) exceeds the maximum amount of friction created between the pads and the disk.

Don't know if this is absolutely true, however I can say that on the RS125 I been traveling at a high rate of speed and grabbed a fist full without flying. Usually, on the street, those speeds aren't realized very often if at all.

This means that the effective stroke of the brake lever will be reduced and that you'll achieve maximum pad pressure sooner. That may or may not be a good thing depending on your perspective.
