Cinch a velcro strap (or something similar) around the front brake lever
and throttle grip and leave it overnight.  In the morning remove the
strap and go for a ride.  This will let you know what you can look
forward to when you get round to cleaning the caliper pistons properly.

Ok, it seems the "mush" just indicates a strong need for regular
maintenance.  Real soon, when the excitement of riding a new bike
fades...or the skies dump again for a week at a time...
