Re: [ST] SS brake lines

Point of clarification -- I think that what we're talking about here is
not really a MUSHY feel to the brakes, but actually more of an issue
with the amount of FREE PLAY before the brakes begin to operate.

Caliper seals are designed to flex somewhat during braking. When the
brakes are released, the seals grab the caliper pistons and pull them
away from the rotors a little bit. But when brake dust inevitably
builds up on the portion of the piston that is exposed during braking,
this causes the brake seals to grab harder and harder. Thus the pistons
tend to be withdrawn a bit more than normal when the brakes are
released, and additional brake lever movement becomes necessary before
the pistons are moved enough to push the brake pads into the rotor.

Truly mushy feeling brakes are more of an indication that the brake
system needs to be bled.
