I've not had any trouble with K&N oil filters here, but have only used 'em on
the VFR800Fi and the TBS...

The VFR's has that handy-dandy "nut" formed into the top of it which makes
handling it with a socket a snap.  The disection of it online seemed to show
quality construction with good media, and though I've only used 2 I can recall
no problems with the threading, hole size, etc.

The TBS uses the "cartridge" type unit and came with replacement o-rings of
the correct size even.  Just found a stash of Emgo's of this type from my '95
Trophy 3's days, wonder if they fit?  

Anyway, so far no bad experiences with K&N oil filters from here.

FWIW.  I know, not much.
