Depending upon exactly which ground we are talking about, YES, a bad
ground can make a relay APPEAR to fail, and if the grounding problem is
intermittent, it can also mean that the relays were fine to begin with
and didn't actually need replacing.  Chances are you will never know
because, most likely, the evidence is long gone (along with your cash).

Each problem has been corrected, but different items keep failing.
Andy mentioned a the possibility of a bad ground, I don't know enough
to know whether that could cause mutiple relays to fail at different
times.
