Re: [ST] Thought I was stranded!

Been there, done that, have the t-shirt to prove it. Better than leaving a disc lock on and dropping your bike in the parking lot. At least I heard it's really embarrassing, not that I've ever done that (right...heh...heh...).

I thought I was stranded last night on my Sprint. I was on my way
home late at night, and stopped to fill up with gas. After filling
up, I turned on the ignition to check my trip odometer to check fuel
consumption (45 mpg, all highway at 80-95 mph). I then geared up
(earplugs, helmet, gloves), rocked the bike off the centerstand, and
attempted to start it. I turned on the ignition, only the headlights
and backlights on the gauges came on. No idiot lights, no odometer,
no activity from the gauges. Not really expecting it to work, I
pushed the starter button anyway, nope, nothing! Turned the ignition
back off, then back on to try again, same thing!

Well, this sucked! It was working a second ago, what the hell could
be wrong now? I had ridden through some heavy rain, but that really
shouldn't cause any problems, since both the bike and I were pretty
much dried out by now. I wiggled the wires coming from the ignition
switch, wiggled the ignition switch, still nothing. Pulled off the
seat, everything looked dry under there, battery connections were
tight, and the headlights were plenty bright. Checked all the fuses,
none were blown. Wiggled some more wires, wondering what could have
happened in the time since I reset my trip odometer and put on my gear.

So, after 20+ minutes checking fuses, wiggling wires and connectors,
I finally noticed the kill switch! Hmm, it shouldn't look like that,
should it? #@*&! All that fiddling around, and I had simply bumped
the kill switch while rocking the bike off the centerstand. Just
what I wanted to be doing 75 miles from home at 2 am! Oh well, went
the last 75 miles in less than 45 minutes, not much traffic heading
north on I-95 after 2am! Gotta love a bike that will let me put away
that many miles that quickly and comfortably.
