[ST] Fuel Consumption was "RS post-idle report"

On a mad cross country Saturday morning, I was late for a very important
meeting.
Speeds in excess of 130 MPH were the norm.
The stretch of the A14 going East to the M1/M6 there are no petrol stations
for 60 odd miles.
The warning light came on at about 145 miles as usual, then just as I was
pulling into the M6 service station the bike started to cut-out.
I can confirm my 02 'ST does 181.4 miles from full to dry.
Had to push it about half a mile to the pumps.

Recall that I had an insidiously growing problem with fast idle in traffic,
coupled with worsening fuel consumption. Which was sorted two weeks ago my
my local Triumph specialist - they found the idle CO was at ~8% (it should
be 3-3.5) and the stepper motor was at 15 clicks (it should be 25-35).

It's now running beautifully. Even at motorway speeds it has made a
noticeable difference, with the engine running smoothly and evenly instead
of the previous harshness and uneven surging. But the biggest improvement is
at low rpm in traffic. Not only is the tickover low and steady (in or out of
gear, hot or cold), but the pickup from idle to slow running is seamless,
making slow traffic work a pleasure again.

Best of all the consumption is back to normal. At it's worst I was seeing
the fuel warning light come on at just 150-160 miles, but now I've run a
fresh tank full through and this morning the light didn't come on until 195
miles. That's better!

I know the CO setting is checked regularly, but does anybody know whether
the stepper motor setting is part of the normal service routine? It strikes
me that it ought to be. Mine had gone miles out of adjustment before I was
driven to actually DO something about it, which makes me wonder how many of
you guys are unknowingly running with it less seriously out of whack, and
maybe not noticing or living with the subtly rough running and poor
consumption......
