Emile,
I can't explain "backing it in" to you, but if you haven't seen the movie
"Faster" or the sequel "Faster & Faster" you really should and it'll show
you the technique in full MotoGP glory.
The phenomenon is essentially caused by the unweighting of the rear wheel
under heavy braking (as you described) - as to how exactly it serves to
benefit the rider in terms of lap times I cannot tell you. But there is
no doubt that some riders have used this technique with great success
against others who ride a more traditional line. The problem being that
their tires tend to get shagged more quickly.

I know what powersliding is, just wondering if there wasn't
a mix up. But actually locking up a tire to get the bike
twisted for corner entry is a serious technique? How does
that work?
