Did you find a latch? I have an extra one with a very slightly bent tip. Looks good otherwise.

I would try to use JB WELD around the leak before I would opt for
engine
teardown. The stuff works fantastic and is permanent. Tearing down the
engine to
the crankcase will leave you at the mercy of the local mechanics engine
rebuilding talents...

Speaking of the stuff, I did a wonderful job of repairing the broken
footpeg with a couple pieces of key stock and a liberal amount of JB
weld this afternoon. Its curing now, but I'll be riding tomorrow.
